Prohibited Exports
It is a criminal offence to take shells or coral from any national park, which includes much of the coastline. It is illegal to take any coral out of the country.
Until 2013, visitors had to obtain a permit from the Department of Environmental and Maritime Affairs to export conch shells. However, in conch season (mid-October to mid-July), tourists can now export up to three queen conch shells without a permit. If you wish to export more than three shells, you need to obtain a CITES permit. During closed season (mid-July to mid-October), exporting conch shells is prohibited, but the legislation is currently being revised meaning visitors will soon be able to export conch shells year-round.
